Obadiah Nyagiro

Obadiah M. Nyagiro is an accomplished agricultural policy economist and industrial development strategist with extensive experience in commodity value-chain modernisation, farmer integration programmes, and agricultural policy design. He holds advanced academic training in agricultural economics and industrial policy design, with specialised knowledge of commodity value chains and contract farming frameworks. His career reflects deep understanding of agricultural development.

Mr Nyagiro currently serves as Director of Policy and Planning at Ministry of Agriculture, Tanzania—a position responsible for designing and implementing national agricultural policies and strategic frameworks. In this role, he shapes Tanzania’s agricultural strategy, ensuring alignment with national development objectives, international food security commitments, and sustainable agriculture principles. His position provides direct influence over national policy directions and investment priorities.

Throughout his career, Mr Nyagiro has navigated complex agricultural value-chain systems as a senior policy designer and economist working across commodity sectors and farmer populations. He has represented Tanzania in global food security forums, serving as lead delegate to international agricultural conferences and articulating Tanzania’s positions on food security, agricultural development, and climate adaptation.

During his tenure in industrial development, Mr Nyagiro spearheaded national strategies to modernise agro-processing infrastructure—enhancing value-addition capacity and farmer earnings—and strengthen contract farming arrangements. He has established relationships with regional farmer networks, positioning himself as a key institutional bridge between smallholder producers and policy structures. His advocacy for farmer-centred policy design reflects commitment to ensuring development benefits rural communities.

On AGCOT’s board, Mr Nyagiro ensures corridor operations integrate with national agricultural policy directives, creating policy alignment and institutional coherence. His contract farming advocacy and farmer network relationships strengthen integration between AGCOT’s operations and government policy frameworks. His position ensures corridor strategies align with Ministry priorities whilst guaranteeing smallholder interests are represented.
